Evangelical Christian's Drew McMichael is amongst the top Pole Vaulters in the State and leads our TFX DyeSTat rankings with his 16' 5' jump.  Drew recently shared some thoughts on his decision to attend school in the Southeastern Conference for the Auburn Tigers.

I took my official visit to Auburn late in the season about two weeks ago.  I went up there with high expectations of the college and left with higher expectations.

The school is above what I though it was going to be. Auburn offers top of the line athletics.   Let's be real, it's the SEC, but also the main factor was the academics.

I am wanting to pursue engineering and Auburn is well known for their amazing facilities for their engineering program.

Coach Richardson, the jumps coach, is an amazing man with an amazing family. He appreciates the vault and that is what I was looking for in a coach. I believe that Auburn has all the resources for me to reach my fullest potential at the next level.

Many people go to a school for the sports and some choose it for the academics. Luckily for me, I got the best of both worlds.

High School has been an absolute blast for me!

I don't want to leave but I know college will throw many challenges my way but also even more opportunities.

From my Athletic Director, Dean of Students, guidance councilor, all my teachers, coaches, friends, and family, I really do believe that I have had the best help to prepare me for the next level.

If I had to put one favorite athletic experience, it would be sophomore year going to States and getting 2nd place in the vault.

I loved coming in as the underdog. No pressure to be number one but only to jump my highest and that's what I did.  I cleared 15' to tie the State Champion only to lose due to attempts. It was a great experience that set my road to where I am.

I love to play all sports.  I couldn't play them all in order to stay healthy for vaulting, so my only regret in high school was not playing everything I could, but it has paid off to stay healthy.

I don't look like it but I am a country boy. I like to spend as many hours in the woods hunting or on the water fishing as I do on the track training. My only problem is that turkey season and track season are at the same time!

I have left after many meets to go hunting with my dad.

This year is going good but not great. I am putting up decent marks consistently but soon I am hoping to have a great season with some records to be broken.  I have worked plenty hard and it is paying off.

My goal is to simply jump as high as I can. I don't put a certain number in my head but rather tell myself I'm not stopping at the height I am currently jumping.

Yes I would love to take the Florida all-time record with a height of 17' 1.5'.

I very strongly think I can jump higher than that and will continue to work after it. I want people to know that I was a blessed by God with my abilities and that I continue to give God all the glory.  That is all!
